Pawpaw is a tropical tasting fruit with hints of banana, mango, and pineapple with a very smooth, custardy type of mouth feel.
These Pawpaw Seeds were hand-harvested by me in Western NC. They have not been allowed to dry out at all (which would reduce their germination rates), and have been stored in moistened peat moss.
These seeds are from the 2023 season, and will need to be stratified before they will be ready to plant in Spring 2024. This means that your Pawpaw Seeds need a period of cool, moist “hibernation” called stratification before they will sprout. Plan for 3-4 months of cool/moist storage at 34-40* F. Simply store them in the refrigerator until planting time.
Pawpaw Info:
- Grows in Zones 5-8, where there is a cold winter and a hot summer.
- Is tolerant of shade and it may be planted as an understory, however they will produce more fruit with more sunlight.
- Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 5.5-7.0.
- Grows from 12-25 ft tall.
- Should be spaced 8-15 ft apart.
- Bears fruit after 4-7 years.
- Requires another genetically distinct tree to pollinate with in order to produce fruit.
